2016 Ellen G. White Estate Annual Update
2016 Ellen G. White Estate Annual Update
Including plans for 2017
Dear White Estate Friend,
During 2016, many of you have been blessed in one way or another by the work of the Ellen G. White Estate, whether through reading one of Ellen White's many books, or publications we have produced about her life and ministry. Maybe you were blessed by our electronic products such as our Websites and apps (now available in nearly 100 languages). Perhaps you visited the Ellen White Visitor Center located at our main office, or attended a meeting conducted by someone from the White Estate. Our team is very grateful to our friends whose investment in our work helps to make many of these things possible.
Below is a brief overview of several of the major activities of the White Estate this year, followed by some of our plans for 2017, as funding is available to do them. Here are the 2016 highlights:
- Staff participation in Ellen White-related symposiums and seminars in Austria, Kenya, Mexico, and Romania.
- The Bogenhofen Seminary Symposium in Austria was the first ever in a German speaking country. It was well attended and greatly appreciated.
- The Adventist University of Africa Symposium in Kenya, was the first combined meeting for administrators and theologians from the three world Divisions in Africa.
- Translation of The Gift of Prophecy in Scripture and History, into 3 languages. The book was edited by Dwain Esmond and Alberto Timm. It is a collection of 20 essays by various scholars on different aspects of the gift of prophecy, as delineated in the descriptive title of the book.
- Publication of Glimpses into the Life of Ellen G. White, as told by Jim Nix (a collection of 25 stories about Ellen White.) The book has been translated into two languages. It is also available on DVD, presented by the author.
- Both of the above books and the DVD are available through Adventist Book Centers.
- Release of 1 new and 4 updated EGW Writings apps: first release of EGW Writings for macOS computers; EGW Writings 2, v.3.0 App for Android and iOS; release of EGW Writings v3.0 Apps for Windows; new study center features added to the mobile m.egwwritings.org Website.
- Launch of SC125 program at Annual Council in October and at various Division Year-end Meetings. The project commemorates the 125th anniversary of the publication of Steps to Christ in 1892. More information is available at the White Estate's Website: ellenwhite.org (SC125)
- Ellen White Webinar conducted for North American Division teachers.
Preliminary Plans for 2017 (as funding is available):
- Conduct additional international Spirit of Prophecy symposiums.
- Translate The Gift of Prophecy in Scripture and History into additional languages.
- Publish a new handbook for Spirit of Prophecy coordinators.
- Publish a new Ellen White compilation for church leaders.
- Publish new compilations containing excerpts from The Great Controversy in both English and non-English languages for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
- Additional app updates will be made available, as well as an app for SC125.
- New projects for youth and children will include release of God's Messenger, a quarterly electronic publication; Pitcairn II, a game for children; "Ellen White Says," a game for youth; several youth testimonial videos; and a coloring book based on Steps to Christ.
- Release a new short documentary about Ellen White's family including footage from 1929 White Family films that were recently donated to the White Estate by a member of the family.
- Create an English language virtual reality tour of the Ellen White Visitor Center.
The White Estate continues to receive requests for virtual reality tours of the Ellen White Visitor Center in multiple languages. Funding is being requested specifically to help make those multi-language tours a reality. Your investment will allow thousands of people to be blessed who otherwise never will have the opportunity to experience the Visitor Center at the General Conference.
Those who want to invest in this, or other White Estate projects, may mail their donation to the following address:
Ellen G. White Estate, 12501 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, MD, 20904, USA, or use our secure donation portal: partner.egwwritings.org.
Gifts specified for a specific project will be credited to that project; donations that are not otherwise specified will be credited to the multi-language virtual reality tour project. Donations are tax deductible, as allowed by your applicable tax laws.
Thank you so much for your on-going support of the White Estate. In addition to your much appreciated financial support of our ministry, thanks also for sharing with others information about the various resources provided by the White Estate.
Jim Nix, director
